Happy Halloween From Mara The Giraffe!

Filed under: General — Steph @ 10:28 pm

This was Mara’s second Halloween but probably the first she sort of understood. We trick-or-treated just our street tonight starting around 6 p.m. She didn’t get out the words trick-or-treat however she did manage to be the little miss mighty politey that we all know and love by saying, “thank-you” and “good-bye” at every house.
At first when we arrived on the door steps she seemed not to know what to do. When our neighbors stuck their big bowl of candy in front of her she would just gaze into it. With a little encouragement she picked up a few pieces!

What really cracks me up about these pictures are her faces and expressions before going out. She was kind of grumpy and not very happy. Then once we returned she was all smiles. Yes…that is an eyeball she’s eating. I got some really great gummy ones at Costco this year. They are merely the consistency of a gummy worm or bear but with creepy detail like an eyeball. Mara digs them. Our neighbors kids appear in the pictures too. Check them out! Be sure to click one of the pictures to see the whole album.

Also Mara had a costume parade today at her daycare. Stay tuned because we’ll be posting some video from that event!

Ride ‘Em Cowgirl

Filed under: Videos — Luke @ 10:00 pm

This past Sunday Nana Smith came in for a visit. Although Mom and Dad would like to think it was to see them, we all know that it was really to see Mara. Nana came bearing gifts, and had a rather large one wrapped up in some plastic bags. After uncovering it, Mara looked at it a little funny. The stuffed horse she had brought was bigger than she was! Mara thought it was real we think, and was a little intimidated at first. She acted the same way she does around dogs that she meets walking the neighborhood. Very excited from afar, but more hesitant up close. She warmed up to him though after a little while. We captured some footage of her riding her trusty steed later on in the day after she woke up from her afternoon nap.

Splish Splash Parker & Mara Taking A Bath

Parker & Mara got together about a week ago and had a blast! They played outside with Parker’s electric jeep and tricycle with the handle. We came indoors and played with washable markers and made a big mess. What fun they had together. At one point they were on the floor acting silly together. Anyway after all the playing with markers and eating they needed a bath. This was too cute not to post. Their expressions are so silly.

Where P. Mantis Was Born

Filed under: General — Steph @ 1:42 pm

So we are a little behind. These are pictures of our trip to the Natural Science Center here in town from about a month ago. This would be where we acquired our very own plastic p. mantis much to Mara’s delight!
You can see by the pictures she’s having a fun time with all the interactive exhibits!

Birthday Wishes to Auntie Jen

Filed under: Announcements — Steph @ 8:22 pm

The Evans family would like to wish Jennifer McDonough (a.k.a. “Auntie Jen”) a happy “30th” birthday today. Or second 29th…whichever way you’d like to look at it!

When I picked up Mara from daycare today we practiced saying happy birthday and even gave the whole song a couple of tries on the ride home. Then we called Auntie Jen and Mara said, “Happy Birthday”. I wasn’t sure she’d go for the whole song or even remember it once she was actually talking on the phone. She likes to use the phone only for a minute tops.

First Face Painting

Filed under: Pictures — Steph @ 9:19 pm

We took Mara to an event going on at our YMCA. They had some concessions, face painting and blow up jumping devices. She had a lot of fun. She watched some African dancing by a local troop, ate some popcorn and got her face painted. We were concerned she was still a bit small to get inside the jumping devices. The other kids were so much bigger we didn’t want her to get stomped on while inside and hate the experience. Anyway here are just a few shots of her day.

We’ve been horrible about blogging this month. Half the month is done and only one post up until now. We are going to try to kick it into high gear on posting this month so stay tuned…

What is it about the allure of wearing your parent’s shoes as a kid? It seems to be something that all kids do. Is it just the desire to imitate your parents?

A few weeks ago we were able to tape Mara making off in Mom’s sandals. Lately Mara has been putting on all forms of shoes in the house. Sneakers, dress shoes, Mom’s or Dad’s. Its surprising how maneuverable she can be in them!
