Typical Start

Filed under: Videos — Luke @ 10:55 pm

Last week Mom took some video of a typical start to Mara’s day. I don’t think we can say that it is very exciting necessarily, but we do enjoy getting her up in the morning because we get to see her smiling face for a little pick-me-up. We thought that we would share that moment with you. So here is what a sleepy Mara looks like.

Mara And Mr. Brown

Filed under: Videos — Luke @ 3:59 pm

It has been a while since we have posted a video to the website. It just seems that in the beginning everything that Mara did new seemed to be distinct and something we could film as an event. Now the new things she does seem to gradually come by in time and it’s harder to identify good milestones to capture. I’m not sure if that is really why we haven’t filmed, but it does seem that way.

Last week I was reading Mara one of her books, Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You, and for one of the first times she started to repeat some of the words in the book as I read them. For those not familiar with the book it is actually meant to be read and have the child repeat the sounds, but I had never used it that way. When the repeating occurred I just thought that Mom had been practicing this with Mara and she repeated the feat with me. Not the case. When I asked Mom she said Mara had not been doing the same with her. Strange. In some way maybe Mara was understanding the words of the book “can you,” or she was just familiar with some of the sounds like “moo” or “buzz” from other instances of us teaching them, and was taking it upon herself to get involved with the book reading. Either way, she was interacting quite a bit. We thought it would be a good show for those that don’t get to see her everyday, to see how much she is talking and what she knows how to say.

Now, some things she doesn’t say very well, but she makes an attempt at all of it. In this sitting though she was quite tired from the day, and she either needed extra prompting to say the words or didn’t say a word or two at all. It didn’t help that she had a sticker which can be awfully distracting for her. The cutest thing she says is “whisper” which I’m not sure you’ll be able to make out on the audio since in fact she does whisper it like the book says. You also get to see her defiant side. She knows how to say “no” and mean it.

Hope you enjoy!

Didn’t We Say Influencing The World?

Filed under: Announcements — Luke @ 10:57 pm

Mom and Dad have been doing this little web thing for Mara for a little over a year now. When we started we didn’t know what it would turn into. Actually we are still learning. What we have found is that this is a great tool for letting people know what is going on with Mara on a regular basis even though the people can be all over the country. This past weekend we made a discovery that after some time of it not being the case, now Mara is number one on Google if you search for her name. You can check it a couple of different ways and it will work. You can go and type it into the engine yourself or just click below for a sample.

Mara Evans
“Mara Evans”

For curiosity, here are some other engines.

Yahoo: Mara Evans at number two or “Mara Evans” at number five
Ask: Mara Evans at number seven or “Mara Evans” at number six

She’s getting popular. Don’t miss what she’s about to do next!

Down To Wilmington

Filed under: Pictures — Luke @ 10:54 pm

Last weekend was a trip to Wilmington to visit the beach. Mara gets more and more used to seeing sand and surf. Of course she has been getting a lot of water time at the pool this summer. It iss a little strange that we don’t get in the water much when we are at the ocean. Just a little wading. This trip it was a lot of sand play, and trips to the water to fill pails for a return back to sit under the umbrella. It was hot! You can see a picture of the girls below. To make sure you see all the cute pictures, click through to take a look.

We also visited with Ashley, David, Sloan and Emerson. Not thinking, we failed to get a picture of the kids together. It would have been easy, they played in the living room for a long time. Although not really together, since Mara still does her own thing independently at this point. We figure there are more chances to get pictures with them as we expect to go to Wilmington again soon.

My First Lollipop

Filed under: Pictures — Steph @ 8:00 am

This past weekend Luke and I decided it was time to visit Wilmington again and use his parents condo. We thought Mara would adore the beach since she’s much older. This post however will not be about the beach. I have too many pictures to resize to post it yet but be assured it is coming soon.
On Sunday before we left we ate breakfast out at a mom and pops type diner. As we were checking out the man at the register asked if Mara could have a lollipop. We thought it would be fine since she has never had one and we could watch her with it. Boy oh boy did she love it as you well can see by these two shots taken of her in the car seat. It was a pink lemonade flavored dum dum.

Poythress Family Visit

The Poythress Family: Danny, Amy, Brittany and Preston (~4 mos. old at the time) visited us a couple weekends ago. Mara had so much fun visiting with everyone. She particularly likes Brittany who will play with her a lot. Also she enjoyed trying to sit in Preston’s little green chair called the Bumbo Seat. She’s a bit too big so when she’d stand up it would often come with her. The picture of Mara with both hands in a bowl is when we went out to La Fiesta for lunch on Sunday and she was indulging in the sour cream bowl. Forget dipping chips, hands are delicious with sour cream!!

Although this wish is a little belated we still want to say Happy 16th Birthday to Brittany. Her birthday was July 31st. We are coming to visit you sometime soon to play some ping pong! Thanks for always entertaining Mara and being so kind as to babysit her for us so we can go out with your parents.
